There’s something almost sacred about maternity sessions—those fleeting weeks before everything changes, when anticipation hangs in the air like golden light. And when that anticipation is paired with the timeless beauty of Oatlands Historic House & Gardens in Leesburg, Virginia? Magic happens.
Last week, I had the joy of photographing Michella and John, who are expecting their first baby this summer. We met at Oatlands just before golden hour, and the moment I pulled into the long tree-lined drive, I knew we were in for something special.
If you’ve never visited Oatlands, imagine this: a historic 19th-century mansion nestled among rolling Virginia hills, formal boxwood gardens, and hidden paths surrounded by blooms. It’s elegance meets nature, and it’s one of my favorite places to shoot—especially in spring and early summer when the gardens are bursting with life. We started at the mansion, with it’s beautiful white columns, where the light hit just perfectly! We wandered the gardens, which were still in the beginning stages of blooming, but still a beautiful backdrop for this stunning couple. This was such a fun session. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
